An introduction to personal branding
Branding used to solely refer to distinguishing a manufacturer’s product from others. With the growth of the Web, especially social media, it has branched to personal branding, or the development of a person’s image to employers, networking connections and ultimately anyone online.
Top 5 online portfolios
So what about these online portfolios makes them special? Part of it is their design, but a major component is content. The best online portfolios include a logo, tagline, resume, bio, contact information and their own domain name. Most importantly, they fit the person's personal brand.

Heather Perry, Robin Niclasen and Nicole "Colee" Ueland are seniors at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. This blog on personal branding - for students, by students - is the result of a class project for an eMarketing course.
Heather is a Communication major with an emphasis in journalism, and she is earning a minor in Business Administration. After graduation, Heather hopes to work as a visual storyteller in Western Washington. View her online portfolio.
Robin is an international student from Denmark majoring in Business Administration. After graduation, he plans to return to Demark to earn his Master's and then work in a marketing department for a firm in Denmark or the United States.
Colee is also a Communication major and Business Administration minor, but her emphasis is in Public Relations. She has a passion for social media. After interning at Franke Tobey Jones, she was hired on as a Social Media Consultant where she created and launched their blog, 4 Seasons of Life.
